Founded in 1979, Trickle Up empowers people living on less than $1 a day to take the first steps out of poverty, providing them with resources to build microenterprises for a better quality of life. In partnership with local agencies, we offer very poor people business training and seed capital to launch or expand a microenterprise, and savings support to build assets.

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE FOR ASIA and LATIN AMERICA

Trickle Up is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the poorest people take the first steps out of poverty through microenterprise development. We provide opportunities for the poorest people to improve their livelihoods by developing microenterprises via a combination of seed capital, training, and other support services. Trickle Up works with partner agencies in 8 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In 2007, we helped start or expand over 11,000 businesses, improving the lives of over 58,000 people around the world. Founded in 1979, Trickle Up has headquarters in New York City and field offices in India, Mali and Uganda. We will be opening a field office in Guatemala this year.  The Asia program is active in India and Nepal and the Latin America program in Guatemala and Nicaragua.

The Program Associate will work under the joint supervision of the Program Officer for Asia and the Program Officer for Latin America.  The Associate will be a full participant in program design and implementation for both regions and her/his tasks will include the following:

  • Program Operations
    - Communicate with field offices in India and Guatemala to coordinate fund disbursement, reporting, communication, and logistics as needed;
  • - Provide administrative support to the Asia and Latin America Program Officers;
  • - Review and track microenterprise and program data for compliance with program requirements;
  • - Review and track budget expenses; and
  • - Manage Asia and Latin America programs in the absence of the Program Officers. 
  • Monitoring
    - Conduct field visits to organize training workshops with partner agencies, monitor their performance, and expand donor network;
    - Assist in the revision of program guidelines, training tools, and research materials;
    - Analyze program results and report impact on entrepreneurs, communities and partners; and
    - Keep abreast of socioeconomic trends in the region and developments in microenterprise.
    External/Donor Relations
    - Contribute to preparation of proposals and reports to donors;
  • - Assist with handling inquiries; and
  • - Represent Trickle Up at conferences, special events, and office visits.
  • Strategy & Planning
    - Participate in strategic and operational planning processes;
  • - Provide input to the Annual Plans and Budgets for Asia and Latin America;
  • - Develop training resources for workshops with partners and incorporate innovations in quality of Africa program; and
  • - Conduct special research projects, as needed.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    - Field experience in India or Nepal and Latin America a must;
  • - Fluency in written and conversational Spanish a must;
  • - Very strong written and oral communication skills;
  • - Demonstrated proposal writing skills;
  • - Administrative experience, including multi-tasking and prioritization skills;
  • - Demonstrated knowledge of microenterprise and/or economic development; and Degree in international development or related field.

In addition, the following are a strong plus:
- Familiarity with a South Asian language; and
- Experience in business development services, training, savings, and/or microfinance .
