I Have a Lot of Dreams
Follow Trickle Up Board member Kathleen Donovan as she walks us through her recent trip to India to witness Trickle Up’s program in action:
This past January, I was invited along with my son Michael and other members of the board to visit with some of the women in Trickle Up’s India program. We visited a number of different villages in the state of West Bengal such as Cholagora, Ghat and Dikhi. I could go on about the amazing women I met on my trip, but I’d like to show you rather than tell you..
Kathleen Donovan: “I really expected many of the women to be much more shy and reserved than they are, but given a platform, they are very willing to talk about a plan and why they have embarked on the plan they’ve embarked on, and their views for the future. That is so inspiring. These are women that are in much regard clear thinking – very clear on what their priorities are and their plan and how to achieve their plan and what the next steps are. That’s another very hopeful part about this.”
“I am not afraid of not being able to eat food anymore. That fear has gone far away!”
Tarun Shukla: “I am able to take more risk and do certain activities” (translating for her).
Tarun: “What are your future goals?”
Woman: “I want to start a vegetable vending business. I have a lot of dreams”
Tarun: “Tell us some more”
Woman: “I want to fix my house’s roof… send my children to school… I have a lot of dreams!”
